Introduction
Ujjayi Pranayama, also called Ocean Breath, is a gentle yet powerful breathing technique in yoga that promotes relaxation, mental clarity, and pranic balance. Named for the sound it creates, reminiscent of ocean waves, this practice is deeply connected to the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) and Heart Chakra (Anahata), supporting calmness, expression, and energy flow.
Ujjayi is commonly used during yoga asanas, meditation, and pranayama sequences to enhance focus and synchronize breath with movement.
How to Practice Ujjayi Pranayama:
Sit Comfortably: Sit in Sukhasana, Padmasana, or on a chair with a straight spine.
Posture: Keep your shoulders relaxed and hands resting on your knees, palms facing upward.
Inhale Deeply Through the Nose: Fill your lungs fully while slightly constricting the throat to create a soft hissing sound.
Exhale Through the Nose: Maintain the same throat constriction, producing a gentle ocean-like sound.
Focus: Keep your attention on the breath and the sound it makes.
Duration: Practice 5–15 minutes daily or as needed for calmness and focus.
Physical Benefits:
Improves oxygenation and lung capacity
Enhances respiratory function
Reduces stress, anxiety, and tension
Supports cardiovascular health
Increases energy and alertness
Energetic & Spiritual Benefits:
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Enhances communication, self-expression, and clarity
Heart Chakra (Anahata): Promotes emotional balance and calmness
Balances Prana Flow: Harmonizes energy throughout the body

Mindful Tip:
Imagine each inhale drawing in calm, healing energy, and each exhale releasing tension and negativity. The gentle ocean sound connects your body, mind, and spirit, fostering deep relaxation, focus, and balance.
Practice Tips:
Practice in a quiet, comfortable space to maintain focus.
Keep the spine straight and shoulders relaxed for optimal energy flow.
