Introduction

Surya Bhedana Pranayama, also called the Right Nostril Breathing Technique, is a powerful yogic practice that stimulates the body, awakens the inner fire, and energizes the Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura). In Sanskrit, Surya means sun, and Bhedana means piercing or activating. This practice channels warm, stimulating energy into the body, enhancing focus, vitality, and determination.

How to Practice Surya Bhedana Pranayama:

Sit Comfortably: Sit in Sukhasana, Padmasana, or on a chair with a straight spine.

Position Your Hand: Use the right hand to control your nostrils using the thumb and ring finger.

Close the Left Nostril: Gently close the left nostril with your ring finger.

Inhale Through the Right Nostril: Take a slow, deep inhale, feeling energy rising through your body.

Exhale Through the Left Nostril: Close the right nostril with the thumb and exhale slowly through the left nostril.

Repeat: Start with 5–10 rounds, gradually increasing with practice.

Physical Benefits:

Increases body heat and stimulates metabolism

Boosts circulation and oxygen flow

Strengthens the respiratory system

Enhances digestion and energy levels

Improves alertness and stamina

Energetic & Spiritual Benefits:

Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Activates inner fire, willpower, and personal strength

Balances Fire Element: Encourages energy, motivation, and vitality

Mental Clarity: Enhances focus, decision-making, and confidence

Awakens Prana: Stimulates energy channels, particularly the Pingala Nadi

Mindful Tip:

Surya Bhedana Pranayama is like turning on the inner sun. Each inhale through the right nostril energizes your body and mind, while each exhale through the left releases tension and fatigue. This practice is excellent in the morning or whenever you need a boost of warmth and motivation.

Practice Tips:

Perform on an empty stomach for maximum benefits.

Keep your spine straight and shoulders relaxed.

Focus on slow, controlled breathing rather than speed.

Avoid if you have high blood pressure or heart issues without consulting a professional.

Surya Bhedana Pranayama is more than a breathing exercise. It is a practice to awaken energy, inner fire, and personal strength, supporting both physical vitality and mental focus. Regular practice nurtures confidence, clarity, and a balanced flow of prana.
