Introduction
Bhramari Pranayama, also called Humming Bee Breath, is a calming and restorative breathing technique in yoga that soothes the mind, reduces stress, and balances energy. Its gentle humming sound helps activate the Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) and Throat Chakra (Vishuddha), promoting mental clarity, intuition, and emotional calm.
This practice is particularly effective for relieving anxiety, tension, and overthinking while supporting meditation and mindfulness.
How to Practice Bhramari Pranayama:
Sit Comfortably: Sit in Sukhasana, Padmasana, or on a chair with a straight spine.
Close Your Eyes: Relax your body and bring focus inward.
Position Your Hands (Optional): Place your index fingers gently on the cartilage of your ears to enhance vibration.
Inhale Deeply Through the Nose: Fill your lungs completely.
Exhale with a Humming Sound: Make a steady, low humming sound like a bee while exhaling through the nose.
Repeat: Practice 5–10 rounds, gradually increasing as comfortable.
Physical Benefits:
Reduces stress, anxiety, and tension
Lowers blood pressure and heart rate
Improves oxygenation and respiratory function
Enhances concentration and mental clarity
Relieves headaches and promotes relaxation
Energetic & Spiritual Benefits:
Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Strengthens intuition, insight, and mental clarity
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Supports clear communication and self-expression
Balances Prana Flow: Harmonizes energy channels and soothes the nervous system
Mindfulness: Encourages focus, presence, and meditation readiness
Mindful Tip:
Visualize each exhale as a wave of calm and clarity spreading through your body and mind. The gentle humming vibration helps release tension and creates an inner sense of peace, connecting you with your intuitive awareness.
Practice Tips:
Practice in a quiet, comfortable space to maximize focus.
Keep the spine straight and shoulders relaxed.
Combine with meditation or other pranayamas for deeper effects.
Start gently, gradually increasing the duration and intensity of the hum.
